DeVos Confirmed as Education Secretary; Bill to Abolish Department of Education

DeVos Confirmed as Education Secretary

Rep Thomas Massie (R-KY)

On the day that Betsy DeVos was confirned as Secretary of Education by one vote (due to VP Mike Pence's tiebreaker), Rep. Thomas Massie, (R-KY) introduced a bill to abolish the Department of Education, which was established during the Jimmy Carter administration in 1980.  Massie's legislation, HR899, simply states, "The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2018."  I have a question for Rep. Massie?  Why don't we eliminate the Department of Education at the end of this year?  Why wait until next year.  The quicker we move education out of Washington Bureaucrats' hands, the better.  Also, are you going to fight to see this bill is passed in the House?  This bill is politically unpopular with many of our politicians and you're going to have to fight make sure this bill has a chance to pass in the House.  I will remind you that former President Ronald Reagan wanted to eliminate the Department of Education as well, but had no success in doing so.  If you don't fight for this bill, there won't be any chance of it passing.  The Leftists and many mainstream RINO's will say you don't hold a high value on education.  They'll make you out to be anti-education if you move to eliminate the Department of Education.  It won't be easy.
