The Constitution--Only For a Moral and Religious People (Part 2)

The Preamble

The Constitutional Convention

"The Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."  John Adams

In the last post on Tuesday I made mention of a preacher who was lamenting over the moral/spiritual deterioration that's been taking place in America.  He was talking about the spiritual condition our churches are in as well as events that's taking place in America which are really disturbing.  Some of the disturbing trends that are taking place in America is our tolerance for the homosexual lifestyle as well as gay marriage being pushed upon the American people.  Last year there was a case that was answered by the Supreme Court on June 26, 2013 last year and in that case Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy didn't squarely deal with the constitutionality of same-sex marriage but he did say that it was unconstitutional for states to deny gay couples benefits that heterosexual couples receive.  As a result of that ruling, district judges in courts across the United States have used that ruling to strike down gay marriage bans in 20 states in which the people voted in the ballot to deny homosexuals the right to marry in that state.  What we're seeing concerning this issue is appalling.  It's very deafening to see politicians who claim to be conservatives who are silent on the matter.  On top of that, they won't use their power to limit the federal courts in certain jurisdiction of cases.  These federal judges shouldn't get away with overturning the state's ban on gay marriage.  There's nothing constitutional whatsoever about same-sex marriage.  There's no precedent to warrant such a lifestyle that God calls an abomination.

There are other issues that's destroying America as well such as abortion. the homosexual agenda, teen suicide, young teens and young men viewing pornography over the internet, drunkenness, drugs, teen suicides, the lack of financial temperance amongst many Americans, the $17+ trillion dollar deficit compiled over the las, the high levels of fraud and corruption in our government, our government trying to grant amnesty to illegals, rampant illegal immigration, and the list continues.  The preacher mentioned that the shape America is in morally, spiritually, economically, and the list continues, it will take a dictator to straighten things out.

After hearing that comment, I was thinking of the words of John Adams, the 2nd president of the United States.  When you read history and read some of the quotes John Adams made, he strongly emphasized the important of religion in a society.  He states that the Constitution which allows us the liberty we enjoy in America will only work when coupled with religion.  If there is a lack of religion and morality, then America will cease to be the nation that it started as.  Adams said that religion and morality alone can establish freedom.  He said that our form of government will only work for a self-governed people, a people who know how to live morally right.

Adams was exactly right.  This form of government only will work amongst a people who know how to govern themselves.  That only can happen if they allow some form of morality to restrain them.  They have to know how to practice temperance in their life.  If the people of a country don't know how to restrain their passions, then that nation will cease to be.  You can't have a government that allows the type of government that the U.S. has enjoyed for the last few centuries if the generation we're producing is lawless and doesn't know how to restrain themselves.  Passions can be extremely dangerous if unchecked.  We live in a society where there are demented people who will go out into the public malls or into the public schools and open fire with a pistol to kill people.  That's the kind of society we live in today.  We've adopted this secular humanistic mentality that "Man is the measure of all things," or "If it feels good do it."  It won't work in a just society.  If people won't restrain themselves, then that results in chaos and eventually tyranny by a dictator.  That's what's going to eventually transpire in America if we're not careful.  We're almost there.

Let's take a quick historical background concerning the roots of our nation.  In 1620 and later in 1630 the Pilgrims and then later the Puritans came to America for the purpose of religious freedom.  They didn't come to America looking for silver or gold.  Massachusetts Bay Colony was nothing but a wilderness.  There was nothing that was physically attractive to draw them to America.  North America was not that populated at that time expect primarily Native Americans (which some refer to as Indians).  They came to America for the freedom to worship God according to their conscience.  The phrase "according to their conscience" is very significant because in 17th century England there was the church of England and the hierarchy and the liturgy I believe possessed many elements of Catholicism.  The Pilgrims and Puritans were opposed to the way the Church of England operated.  So they left England to sail to Massachusetts Bay to establish a church for the purpose to worship God without the state dictating how they should worship.  Church doctrine was a very serious mnatter to them.  They didn't want any part of that church hierarchy that was represented in England.  Our nation's Christian roots started with the Pilgrims and Puritans.  The Pilgrims sailed on the Mayflower in 1619 and several of the those who traveled died from diseases while on their voyage.  Many of them didn't make it into the New World.  When they came to Massachusetts Bay they drew up the Mayflower Compact and dedicated this nation to God.  To skip over some of America's religious history, God would move amongst this nation in the 18th century with the First and Second Great Awakenings.  God moved in a mighty way in the Northeast and he used such great clergyman as Jonathon Edwards and George Whitefield in the First Great Awakening.  In the Second Great Awakening God used such great mean as John and Charles Wesley and Isaac Watts, to name a few.  God turned this young colonial country upside down before the American Revolution for independence.  America had a great Christian background established before our Founding Fathers made the decision to separate from Great Britain to declare ourselves a free country.  The reason why our Founders was able to form the Constitution in Philadelphia was because our nation was a Christian nation and we had people who were willing to fight and die for this country.  They also had a fear for God and they knew how to practice self-government.  They knew that a nation couldn't survive unless we served God and acknowledged our need for Him as a nation.

There's something I want to clarify very quickly and that is I mentioned that the consensus of this nation during the time of the Constitutional Convention was Christian.  That doesn't mean everybody was individually born again but they espoused Christian principles and acknowledged God.  I also want to point out not everybody was moral either.  There were those that were irresponsible and had committed acts of whoredom.  There were drunkards and even sodomites in America at the time.  However, those that were sodomites didn't display it before everybody.  They had more sense to keep it quiet.  They didn't flaunt their sin like sodomites do today.  I also want to mention that there are some people that live on welfare today that do so because of financial necessity and there are some areas of our country that are experiencing difficult economic times.  Not everybody that is on welfare possesses the mindset that government owes them a living, for example.  There are some people who are in a financial pinch, and I understand that.  Consequently, we are possessing the mindset amongst certain people that government owes them a living and that government should provide them free health care, free housing, free education, and free cell phones, to name a few.  Those kind of people are draining America.  Thomas Jefferson stated that a government that is big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take away everything away you have.  The government has laid a net under our feet and one of these days those that have been living under the government dole will eventually lose what they have.  The government is trapping and enslaving us.  They are involved in collapsing the economy.  If they succeed at that (which they are doing) then they will be able to control every aspect of our lives.

Truthfully speaking, our Constitution won't work amongst a people in America who are far removed from it's core roots when it started.  We have turned our backs on God and have run away from him at a breakneck speed.  Does America have a chance to straighten out it's own house?  I don't know.  But it won't happen by electing new candidates for both houses of Congress or the presidency.  There's no political solution to our problems.  We're far past relying on politicians to save our nation.  We don't have men of character or integrity in Washington that can turn this nation around.  Frankly, our country is controlled by those who are imposing upon us a new world order.  Washington isn't going to be able to fight against the elites that are helping to usher in the antichrist.  The globalists are controlled by the Forces of Darkness, or the Forces of Nimrod.  America's problems are spiritual.  If we can ever produce a generation that stands for liberty and the values that made this nation great, then it will have to come through a great awakening amongst God's people.  Our Constitution cannot work with the caliber of people who comprise this country today.  Our Constitution won't work when we possess a group of politicians who are nothing more than traitors to this country.  They totally bypass the Constitution at most points.  What hope do we have when we rely on politicians who have no regard for the Constitution?  None.  The only hope that's possible is a spiritual awakening in America.  I pray that still can happen before it's too late.
