Andy Griffith, best known for his roles in the Andy Griffith Griffith Show and in Matlock, died on Tuesday, July 3, 2012.  Andy Griffith was best known for playing Sheriff Andy Taylor on the Andy Griffith Show from 1960-68 on CBS.  He played alongside Don Knotts, who was affectionately known as Barney Fife.  Knotts was a very goofy and hilarious sheriff on the Andy Griffith Show. That show became one of the most popular shows on television during the decade of the 60's.  Andy Griffith was also one of television's most beloved stars at the time. 

In the 1980's Andy Griffith made one other successful show and that show was called "Matlock" where Griffith played Ben Matlock who was a Harvard-educated attorney.  To read the full story about Andy Griffith, click on the above link from LATimes.com.
