Ann Richards' Keynote Address at the Democratic National Convention in 1988

I chose this particular keynote address from former Texas governor Ann Richards in 1988 because of one of the most notable comments made that year during the Democratic National Convention.  She was poking fun at then vice-president George H.W. Bush when it came to his wealth.  She was insinuating that Bush was out of touch with American women and working class Americans.  She made the notable comment, "Poor George, he was born with a silver foot in his mouth."  I think it was also in this address she said that then president Ronald Reagan liked women, but he liked them in the kitchen.  She was ridiculing former President Ronald for his stance against ERA (Equal Rights Amendment.)

Ann Richards would later run for governor of Texas in 1990.  She beat Republican candidate Clayton Williams that year.  Richards served one term as governor of Texas, losing to Bush 41's son, George W. Bush.
