Lawmaker wearing hoodie removed from House floor - CNN.com
Congressman Bobby Rush wearing hoodie on House floor.
Congressman Bobby Rush (D-IL) was sporting a hoodie on the House floor Wednesday giving a speech about Trayvon Martin. He told House members "Racial profiling has to stop." Rush, a former Black Panther member who was active in the civil rights movement in the 1960's took off his suit jacket, pulled a gray hoodie over his head and put on sunglasses. "Just because someone wears a hoodie does not make them a hoodlum," Rush said. He was applauding young people across the country who are wearing hoodies to make a statement about Martin, the teen who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt when he was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Florida. After Rush removed his jacket and placed the hood on his head, Rep. Greg Harper (R-MS), who was presiding over the House floor, began to gavel Rush down saying he was out of order. Rush ignored him continued to speak, citing the Bible. Harper continued to bang the gavel. Rush was finally escorted out because clause 5 of rule 17 (according to House rules) prohibits the wearing of hats in chamber when the House is in session. A floor clerk approached Rush as he finished his comments and led him away from the podium.
I don't know the whole story behind the Trayvon Martin death. I know that George Zimmerman claimed that he killed Martin in self-defense. What the truth is I don't know. But why the rush to judgment in insinuating there was a racist motive behind Zimmerman's shooting of Martin? All shootings that occur aren't always the result of racism. However, it gives an issue for the Jesse Jackson's, the Al Sharpton's and the Bobby Rush's to feed upon. Zimmerman claimed that Martin punched him in the nose and according to Zimmerman, Martin pinned him to the ground and began slamming his head into the sidewalk. That's according to Zimmerman's own testimony. However, you can't make the claim with all the evidence we had that the shooting is racially motivated. However, it fits into the diatribe that whites are racist toward blacks. In this particular case, Zimmerman isn't white. He's Hispanic.
As I've stated before in a past post about race baiting, the media and the elected elite should present some solid evidence before making a racist accusation. You don't accuse someone of being racist unless there's some type of evidence to verify your point. I see that type of thing happening over and over again. I firmly believe the biggest racists in America are the House, Senate, the president of the United States, and the mainstream meda.
