GOP Presidential candidate Speaks at the APF Defending the Dream Conference in Milwaukee, Wis. Saturday March 24, 2012
According to Fox News, GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum is projected to win the state of Louisiana in the Louisiana primary by a comfortable margin. Mitt Romney is expected to finish second, Newt Gingrich third, and Ron Paul fourth. Santorum fared well with evangelical and conservative voters in Louisiana, as he has in other Deep South states. He even edged out Mitt Romney among self-described moderate voters and those who claim the economy is the most important issue in this year's election. Even though it's a solid victory for Santorum, Romney is the national frontrunner. Romney has about half the needed delegates to clinch the party's nomination. The winner needs 1144 delegates to win the nomination. There are 20 delegates up for grabs in Louisiana, even though those delegated, who are allocated proportionally, will be divided among the candidates.
Santorum has now won 11 games, while Romney has won 21 states and territories. Gingrich has won two states and Ron Paul has won none. Santorum had a double-digit lead throughout most of the week. As of the delegate count, Romney is the frontrunner with 560, Santorum with 246, Gingrich with 141, and Paul with 66. For the next six weeks, the campaign will be heading north.
