House Republicans Unveil Budget Blueprint | Fox News
(April 5, 2011) House Budget Commitee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) speaks at a news conference in Washington
House Republicans including Rep. Paul Ryan have unveiled a much-anticipated budget which Ryan says would move America away from a "dependent culture." Democrats have immediately blasted the plan saying it's unbalanced, and favoring corporations over Medicare recipients. The plan reprises a controversial component which would overhaul Medicare for those currently under the age of 55. The plan would allow beneficiaries choose from a list of plans, including the traditional fee-for-service Medicare plan as well as private plans which the government would subsidize. Ryan says he believes competition and choices should be the way forward versus price controls which lead to rationing. He said this at a press conference today. The plan would dramatically simplify the tax code, condensing the six-bracket system into two brackets for individuals. He didn't specify which popular tax credits would be spared, such as the child tax credit or the mortgage interest deduction.
The Republicans' proposal would supposedly prescribe "far less" spending than Obama's budget does. However, this budget still leaves a huge deficit. This measure would produce a $797 billion deficit in the upcoming 2013 fiscal year, as opposed to $977 billion under Obama's budget. What happened to the campaign pledge about cutting government and reining in spending? This budget still leaves a huge deficit in the billions. What a joke! I can remember Ryan's budget plan last year. It was defeated by the Senate. This year's budget presented by House Republicans will go down into flames as well. There's no way Ryan's bill will pass considering the Senate and the presidency are in Democratic hands.
How far is Ryan willing to go to push for this bill to be passed by both Houses of Congress? I doubt he's willing to stick his neck out too far. This is nothing but more of the same political posturing. It will yield the same results: nothing. Where's the provision in this bill to defund Obamacare? One area that needs a knife taken to it is Obamacare. Obamacare needs to be defunded. It can be done since the GOP controls the House. Why doesn't the House defund Obamacare? My conclusion is they don't have any desire to defund Obamacare. It's not part of the political agenda. 'Repealing Obamacare' is a good campaign slogan, but there's no teeth in it. Paul Ryan and the House GOP know that this bill doesn't stand a chance in the Senate. However, they can use the provision provided in the Constitution to eliminate wasteful and unconstitutional spending. It will cost billions to fund Obamacare and as of right now nobody knows the cost of Obamacare.
The problem with Republicans who uphold the conservative label such as Paul Ryan and Michelle Bachmann, for example is they'll use all the right phrases and catch words to allure their base, but they're not willing to follow through with their political rhetoric. If they were serious about repealing Obamacare, they would be organizing a group of Republicans into a coalition to defund it in the House. But they're not serious. It's all part of a political game. That's why we need to vote these incumbents out of office in November.
