McConnell Silent in Defunding Obamacare, Says Senate GOP 'United' Against Obamacare
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell
I'm so thankful that Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is facing opposition in his 2014 Senatorial race. McConnell faces opposition from both political parties. Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is challenging him on the Democratic side and Louisville businessman Matt Bevin is challenging him on the Republican side. Mitch McConnell is the longest serving U.S. Senator in Kentucky history.
For the last few years McConnell has been trying to convince Kentucky voters that he's adamantly opposed to Obamacare and wants to see it repealed. Last week Republican Senator Mike Lee from Utah has proposed that Obamacare be defunded in the House. He said to pass a budget bill but have Obamacare defunded. McConnell has been silent on that issue but claims that the Republicans in the Senate are 'united' against Obamacare. Why should I believe that when his track record shows that he didn't do anything to stop the Affordable Care bill from being passed in the Senate when it was being debated in December 2009. He says he's opposed to Obamacare but he wouldn't use his influence as Senate Minority Leader to launch a filibuster, which is one of the tools the Senate has at their disposal when they oppose a bill that's being debated. He claims that Obamacare would destroy American jobs but he never launched a filibuster to prevent its passage in the Senate. He's not going to convince me he's opposed to Obamacare. He's fine with it becoming law or else he would've used a filibuster to stop that bill in his tracks. McConnell is nothing but a phony and a sham and it's time for him to go.
