Pelosi: 'Unleash' Women Via 'Affordable Quality Childcare for All' | CNS News
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told a gathering in Cleveland earlier this month that America needs to "unleash" women by providing "affordable" child care for all American children--a proposal which she claimed that President Richard Nixon wrongfully vetoed in 1971. In 1971 both houses of Congress passed a bill which would require a national daycare to be established in the United States. Nixon vetoed the bill stating that it would not be good for the family unit. He was right. It's not the role of government to establish childcare in the U.S. It still isn't the role of government to establish daycare in the United States. Children aren't "wards" of the state, which I believe Ms. Pelosi believes it's so. It's the role of mom and dad to raise children--not the government.
If Ms. Pelosi is so concerned about unleashing women, then why doesn't government abolish the present burdensome tax code so that only a flat tax is levied amongst all Americans, regardless of income. That would make it a lot easier for more mothers to stay home with their children. The tax burden makes it very difficult for households to make it on one income, which is the way it should be ideally. It's terrible when it almost requires two incomes to make ends meet. I know there are many situations where two couples have to make an income due to various circumstances. However, that's not the way it should be. The truth is Ms. Pelosi and her minions want to control the daily lives of Americans. That's unAmerican, unBiblical and anti-family.
