Rick Santorum swept the GOP caucuses in Kansas, but still didn't make a dent into GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney's delegate lead.  With all the precincts reporting, Santorum won with 51% of the vote followed by Romney who trailed 21%.  Newt Gingrich was third with 14% followed by Ron Paul at 13%.  Of the 40 delegates awarded from Kansas, Santorum picked up 33 while Romney picked up 7 delegates.  Santorum also won three votes from the Wyoming caucus.

In spite of Santorum's win in Kansas, Romney erased any gains Santorum made this evening by winning the Wyoming contest along with a string of victories in a series of far-flung contests like Guam, which is one of the U.S. territories that participates in the nomination.  Romney racked up more than 30 delegates in the far-flung territories.  As of present, Romney has a margin of 200+ delegates over Santorum.  As the electoral count stands, Romney has 454 delegates, followed by Santorum with 217 delegates.  Gingrich comes in third with 107 delegates followed by Paul with 47.  1144 delegates are needed to clinch the GOP nomination.  To read the results of the caucuses today, click on the above link from FoxNews.com.

Bring All Your Needs to the Altar

Years ago back in the 1970's when the Rambos had a band, they were singing in Louisiana and had an altar service.  As Dottie Rambo was preparing to sing, she opened her mouth and composed this song while singing.  Every word, every note was perfect.  Nothing had to be changed.  This is the first song she's ever written that she sang without writing it first.  The Holy Ghost gave her the words as she sang.  As she sang the song, people from that service swarmed to the altar.  It was considered a very memorable service.  One of the band members asked her following the service why she didn't teach them that song.  She said she never heard it before.

We Shall Behold Him

Dottie composed this song sometime in the late 70's.  The Rambos were going to a meeting in a Baptist Church in Ohio.  As they were in Ohio, Dottie stopped to visit a friend.  As she and her friend were headed out to the service in her car, Dottie saw some special formations in the clouds that were very pretty.  She told her friend about them and as a result, she had to scoot over to the passenger side because she couldn't drive.  As her friend was driving, Dottie composed this song within seven minutes.  She sang it to her friend and they both cried.  The song is popularly sung by Sandi Patty; who made a hit out of this song in the early 80's.

Holy Spirit Thou Art Welcome In This Place

This song was penned by Dottie probably sometime in the mid- 1970's.  During that time Dottie and her family (Buck, Dottie, and Reba) had been traveling behind the Iron Curtain.  When they sang in that area they were instructed to not mention the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus, salvation, or anything about Jesus.  They could sing all the songs they normally sing, but they couldn't say anything about Jesus in-between songs.  One evening following their concert, their organizer decided to send them to a local bistro not far from where they were staying.  Dottie noticed when she was outside how dark, dreary, and oppressive the spirit was in that area behind the Iron Curtain.  Dottie had purposed in her heart to find someone in that restaurant who knew Jesus in order to encourage them.  She was told at the restaurant she couldn't mention Jesus.  She had a pamphlet with Psalm 23 on one side and Jesus with a little lamb on his shoulder on the reverse side.  She had it in the palm of her hand and the waitress came by her table and saw it.  The waitress mentioned Jesus' name and said she loved Him.  The people at her table were scared and fearful they could be arrested.  They immediately left and as she was walking outside she was thinking to herself, "Nobody here may want Jesus, but you're wanted here.  She was speaking in reference to her heart.  Hence the song was birthed by the time she went into the van that evening.  Over the years many people have misconstrued the title of that song thinking it's referring to the Holy Spirit being welcome in the House of God.  Dottie was making reference to the Spirit of God being welcome in a child of God's heart.

Tearful Putin Wins Back Russian Presidency

Tearful Putin wins back Russian presidency | Reuters

A triumphant Vladimir Putin after winning the Russian presidency

On Sunday March 4, 2012, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin triumphed in Russia's presidential election with tears rolling down his cheeks, calling his victory a turning point that had prevented Russia from falling into the hands of enemies.  Putin's opponents complained about widespread fraud and said they would refuse to recognize the results.  The former KGB spy said he won a "clean" victory and was on course to return to the Kremlin after four years as Prime Minister with almost 65% of the votes, according to partial results.  Two exit polls showed Putin with 58 to 59% of the votes and incomplete votes showing him winning with more than 64 percent.

Putin's victory places him back into the Russian presidency for the first time since 2008.  He was president for eight years before he was appointed Prime Minister of Russia on May 8, 2008.  Putin was barred from a third presidential term by the Russian constitution.  Therefore, he was succeeded by Dmitry Medvedev that year.  To read the full story about Sunday's election, click on the above link from Reuters.

Romney Builds Delegate Lead With Super Tuesday Wins

Romney Builds Delegate Lead With Super Tuesday Wins | Fox News

RomneySuperTues.jpgMitt Romney addresses supporters at the Super Tuesday rally in Boston.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney builds his delegate lead to 415--which still falls way short of the 1144 delegates needed to clinch the GOP nomination.  On the Super Tuesday race this past Tuesday, March 6, 2012, Mitt Romney won six states and increased his lead over Rick Santorum by a comfortable margin.  Even though the race is still far from over, Romney is inching closer to the driver's seat.  Rick Santorum, who's second in line to Romney, has a total of 176 delegates followed by Newt Gingrich with 105 delegates and Ron Paul with 47.  Newt Gingrich won Georgia Tuesday, which is the only state he's won since the South Carolina primary in January.  The states that GOP candidate Mitt Romney won were Alaska, Idaho, Vermont, Virginia, Massachusetts, and Ohio.  Romney won a very close race in Ohio.  Rick Santorum held a lead over Romney in the state of Ohio.  Romney finally pulled off Ohio.  The race in Ohio was called after midnight Tuesday.  Ohio offered a total of 66 delegates.

Rick Santorum notched important victories in Tennessee, North Dakota, and Oklahoma.  Along with those three states Santorum previously won Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, and Colorado.  The state which awarded the most delegates was Georgia, in which Gingrich captured 46 of the 76 delegates allotted to Georgia.  Romney secured 13 of those votes with Santorum's two.  In total 419 delegates were at stake on Super Tuesday.  The next contest takes place in Kansas this weekend.  Next week there are contests down South in Mississippi and Alabama.

You Will Have to Live the Song

Throughout the series of posts I have written about the gifted songwriter Dottie Rambo, I have periodically given the background behind some of the songs she has written over the years such as "Germs" "On the Sunny Banks", "He Looked Beyond My Fault and Saw My Need", for example.  For the next couple of weeks, I will give a background behind some of the songs penned by Dottie Rambo.  There are numerous songs that she has written that I don't know the motivation behind the penning of them.  What few I do know I've learned from the YouTube specials I saw about Dottie Rambo.  I will only take the time to mention a couple on this particular post.  I'll mention the background behind some of her other songs in the next post.  In this particular post I've featured some of the most recent songs Dottie had written in her songwriting career dating back from the 1970's.

I Go to the Rock

I don't know much about the background behind this song.  I do know she wrote this song in 1970.  I can't prove this for certain but I have a feeling she may have written this song in the midst of the marital problems she and her then husband Buck faced.  Dottie had submitted this song to her recording company, Benson, to record this song.  If what I read serves me correct, they wouldn't record the song because it sounded "too rocky".  As I've stated in a past back in November concerning Rambo, she was a trendsetter in gospel music.  Janet Paschal stated Dottie was an "edgy" songwriter who had went beyond the boundaries some of the others in southern gospel music had set.  One thing that was unique about Rambo, she gave a lot of soul to her music.  She had an alto voice.  Another thing that was unique concerning Rambo and her singing family was they didn't fit the bill of southern gospel music when they first performed before the National Quartet Convention in 1964.  Southern Gospel groups typically had a bass singer.  The Rambos didn't have a bass singer. The Rambos consisted of Buck, Dottie, and Reba.  Also, they utilized inverted harmony into their singing style.  They would complement one another in singing.  When the lead became too high for one person to sing, another would pick up where the one left off.  So being unique was nothing new for Dottie.  Dottie was also different in the fact she recorded her first "spirituals" album in 1968 featuring a black backup choir.  They recorded an album entitled, "The Soul of Me."  Dottie won a Grammy for that album and Billboard Magazine labeled her as "Trendsetter of the Year."  She recorded music for different genres of music.  She wrote music for traditional gospel, black gospel, contemporary, and even country gospel.

This particular song that she penned, "I Go to the Rock" was a different type of song that Dottie wrote.  It's a song that many black choirs and gospel groups sing today.  Whitney Houston, the former pop singer who died in February, performed this song in the late 90's.  As I've mentioned earlier, Dottie tried to get this song recorded, but the recording company they were signed to refused to record it.  Therefore, she tabled that song for a number of years.  I don't know the event which resulted in the resurrection of that song, but somebody learned about that song and recorded it and Dottie eventually recorded that song.  My knowledge about the background of this particular song is sketchy.  Consequently, that's all I know about this particular song.

The Oil and the Wine

This song was written by Dottie sometime in the late 1970's following the divorce of her daughter, Reba from her first husband.  Reba got married for the first time when she was 23 years old and her marriage ended in divorce. I don't know all the events that took place that resulted in Reba's divorce.  However, many people in Christian circles didn't react very positively to it.  She faced a lot of ridicule for her divorce.  There was an event that Reba attended in Dallas and she was "booed" off the stage.  Dottie was very hurt over the crowd's reaction towards Reba at that time as a result of the divorce.  It was through that incident that Dottie penned the song "The Oil and the Wine."  The theme of that song is we need to learn as Christians to be the Good Samaritan and reach out to those that are inwardly hurting.

Conservative Commentator Andrew Breitbart Is Dead At 43

Conservative Commentator Andrew Breitbart Is Dead At 43 Fox News

AndrewBreitbartFormer conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart

Andrew Breitbart, a widely read conservative internet blogger, whose flare for battle with politicians and the mainstream media earned him a reputation as one of the nation's most influential commentators, died Thursday March 1, 2012.  The websites Breitbart founded ran a statement Thursday morning stating that Breitbart died "unexpectedly from natural causes" in Los Angeles shortly after midnight.  Breitbart was 43 years old.  His attorney and editor-in-chief of those sites confirmed his death to Fox News.

Breitbart was a prolific commentator who founded several websites devoted to covering politics, entertainment, and everything-in-between.  Earlier in his career, he worked for the Drudge Report before leaving to start his outlets including Big Government, Big Hollywood, and Breitbart.tv.  The Los Angeles coroner's office stated that a "cardiac event" likely led to Breitbart's death.  Breitbart's father-in-law, Orson Bean, said Breitbart was walking near his house in the Brentwood neighborhood shortly before his collapse.  Someone saw him and called the paramedics, who tried to revive him.  He was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.  He had suffered heart problems a year earlier, but Bean couldn't pinpoint the problem.  Those who knew and worked with Breitbart said he was witty, fearless, and sharply intelligent, and devoted to his work.  "He was the modern conservative iteration of a 1960's radical," according to Jonah Goldberg.  Goldberg said that on Fox News shortly after Breitbart's death was reported.  Breitbart considered it his charge to expose corruption, hypocrisy, and media bias.  He leveraged his network of websites to accomplish that goal.

Breitbart was also on the forefront of several controversies, notably the salacious tweets by former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) he had sent to young women before his resignation last year.  To read more about Breitbart, click on the above link from FoxNews.com.

Christian Women Will be Featured For Women's History Month

  Corrie Ten Boom

 Susannah Wesley

This month on Women's History Month I'll be featuring Christian women on this blog.  I know at least two Christian women I'll be featuring posts about such as Corrie Ten Boom and Susannah Wesley.  What an inspiration both Christian women were for the cause of Christianity.  Susannah Wesley was the mother of the famous Methodist preacher John Wesley and hymnist Charles Wesley.  There will probably be a few other Christian women I'll be featuring, but I haven't decided whom I'll feature yet.  I may post one on Catherine Marshall, wife of the Senate Chaplain Peter Marshall, who was chaplain of the U.S. Senate twice.  I'll think of others as time goes along.

Michigan and Arizona Primary Results

Michigan and Arizona primary results: Mitt Romney wins ugly - POLITICO.com

GOP candidate Rick Santorum during Michigan primary

GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney cruised through Arizona, winning all the delegate votes in that state.  Romney also won the endorsement of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer prior to the primary Tuesday.  Politico says that Romney had an ugly win in Michigan.  What's interesting about Romney's ugly win in Michigan is that Michigan is Romney's home state and Michigan isn't necessarily a "conservative" state in the sense as Tennessee or South Carolina, for example.  More importantly, Michigan is the home state of Mitt Romney.  It's also the state where Romney's dad, George Romney, was governor from 1963-69.  But even Romney's former home turf wasn't enough to give him a  comfortable victory in Michigan.  The Santorum camp is stating that the race is increasingly becoming a delegate hunt.  He pointed out that with the delegate count Santorum won five Congressional districts in Michigan.  Santorum claims through the delegate count he'll either tie Romney in Michigan or surpass him in the delegate count.

The next major primaries will take place next Tuesday on March 6, 2012 where ten states will participate in Super Tuesday.  Ohio and Tennessee are two of those states.  A couple of Buckeye polls show Santorum leading in that state as of present.  Romney was in Ohio yesterday with events in Cleveland and Toledo.  He will be heading back to the Cleveland area this weekend.  There are 66 delegate votes at stake in Ohio and 58 delegate votes in Tennessee.  How well Romney fares on Super Tuesday could give an indication whether the momentum is on his side.  As of present, the race is down to two candidates which are Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum.  Click on the above link from Politico.com to read the latest results of both of the primaries.
