20 Facts You Might not Know About McDonalds
The McDonalds Empire
Ray Kroc
Today marks the 60th anniversary of McDonalds corporation, in which Ray Kroc is credited with the founding of the first McDonalds in April 15, 1955. It is true that he's the founder of corporate McDonalds, but he's not the original founder of McDonalds. Prior to Ray Kroc's obtaining the McDonalds restaurant, a couple of brothers named Maurice "Mac" and Richard "Dick" McDonald, open their first restaurant, an octagonal shaped building selling hamburgers and barbeque. They had carhops when that restaurant. In 1948, they redesigned the building and they no longer employed carhops. They had a more traditional menu consisting of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, French fries, milkshakes, and soft drinks. They employed the use of multimixers to mix their shakes. They used as many as eight multimixers at a time. That caught the attention of Illinois businessman Ray Kroc, who sold multimixers. He made a special trip to San Bernadino, California to check out the success of McDonalds. It was through that trip that caused Kroc to purchase McDonalds and start his mass franchising system on April 15, 1955.
