Former Kentucky Governor, U.S. Senator Wendell Ford
Former Kentucky governor and former U.S. Senator Wendell Ford died on Thursday January 22, 2015 at the age of 90 in Owensboro, Kentucky. Senator Ford was born on September 18, 1924 in Owensboro, Kentucky. He was involved in politics a large part of his life beginning with his involvement in the National Jaycees starting in 1947. In 1965, he ran for his first statewide office as state Senator and won that race. In 1967 he ran as the Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor and won that race. In 1971, he ran for the gubernatorial race in Kentucky and won that same year. In 1974 he ran for the U.S. Senate seat held by former Republican incumbent Marlow Cook and won. He served in the U.S. Senate for four terms until 1991 when he retired from Congress. He held a long and storied career in politics. He never lost a race.
