The Bells of Christmas--Julie Andrews
It Came Upon the Midnight Clear--Julie Andrews
The Wexford Carols--Julie Andrews
Once again the Christmas season is upon us. Christmas is one of my favorite holidays of the year. I enjoy all the events that surround this blessed season such as Christmas carols, the decorations such as the Christmas tree, holly, the manger scene, etc. In the area in which I live one of the local churches presents the annual musical entitled, "The Messiah" which was composed by George Frederick Handel in 1741. That musical is played every year around December 7th, which is the date that Pearl Harbor was attacked in World War II. That musical was presented for the very first time in that church on that date and ever since it has been performed in that church. There are also major orchestra performances celebrating the theme of Christmas each year.
I also enjoy the food that's cooked during this holiday season as well such as Christmas candy, cakes, turkey, ham, and all the trimmings that go along with it. This year I'm going to feature posts that celebrate Christmas as well as Christmas songs performed by many artists as well. In the last few years it's been the tradition to start off the season with the song sung by Julie Andrews years ago entitled, "The Bells of Christmas." This is a great way to commence the Christmas season. I will also be featuring the background behind Christmas songs as well. I will also feature posts concerning "thoughts of scripture" dealing with the theme "Joy to the World." Some of the essays that feature that theme will be entitled, "Joy to the World: Jesus was Born," "Joy to the World: Jesus Died for Man", and "Joy to the World: Jesus is Coming Again." I'm really excited about this holiday season. As we celebrate Christmas, let's not forget why we celebrate it. We celebrate it because of Jesus' birth into this world. Have a Merry Christmas and blessed holiday season.
