Dottie Rambo has a knack for doing unusual things in gospel music. Janet Paschal, who appears with the Gaither Homecoming Friends quite repeatedly, made the statement one time that Dottie Rambo was an edgy songwriter because she would go beyond the boundaries other songwriters had established at that time. In other words, Dottie Rambo was her own person when it came to music and songwriting. She wasn't afraid to try new things. This was definitely the case in 1968 when she did something she had never done before: record a gospel album with an all-black choir as a backup. Buck Rambo said in the book, The Legacy of Buck and Dottie Rambo that Dottie placed so much soul into her singing that she sounded as if she were black. It was probably as a result of that statement that Buck decided to record Dottie on a solo album using an all-black backup choir.
The Rambos chose twenty members of the Rev. Jonathon Greer's choir from Nashville to record the album. It took a while for Bro. Greer to consent to it becaue he wasn't familiar with the Rambos music. The choir came to the RCA studios in Nashville and joined Dottie to record the album. The name of the album was "The Soul of Me." This album was recorded during the days that Martin Luther King Jr. was alive and all types of protesting, riots, and marches were taking place for the cause of civil rights for the black people. Dottie Rambo won the first Grammy ever given to a white singer singing soul music. No white person had ever recorded a black gospel album before. Bob McKenzie produced it and did a fantastic job. Some folks were unhappy with Dottie recording for this album for no other reason than the fact that a black choir was used to record the album.
The tragedy of this whole ordeal was when the Rambos had received a death threat from the Ku Klux Klan. The Rambos were scheduled to sing a concert in Jackson, Mississippi and the concert had been advertised in "The Singing News" and other places. They received a letter from the KKK stating if they showed up for the concert, they (KKK) would kill the Rambos. On Sunday afternoon, they walked into the Jackson City Auditorium with an escort of four agents from the FBI. They were hiding behind the curtain in case the KKK tried to shoot at Dottie. Dottie had walked up to the stage and told them she had received a letter from the KKK. The letter stated that the KKK were going to kill Dottie and her family if they performed at Jackson, Mississippi. She invited the KKK to come forward so they could pray for the KKK. She told them if they want to kill her for singing with 20 black people who know God, then go ahead. The response from the audience was overwhelming when they cupped their hands together and said, "Forgive our city, we're sorry, we're sorry." How wonderful and great the Lord is. The Lord knows how to turn the hearts of people.

Tis the Season

It's that time once again. Christmas is in the air. It's hard to believe that a whole year has passed since last Christmas. I'm looking forward to the Christmas spirit that's in the air. I love Christmas. I enjoy the opportunity to participate in all events related to Christmas. As the last two years, I will be writing posts about Christmas. Some of them will be thoughts on scripture. Some of the posts I will be writing this Christmas will be entitled, "Jesus was Born Into this World to Die For the Sins of Mankind." It will be divided into a number of parts. Those will probably be my Sunday posts. This Sunday on November 27, 2011, I will feature my last post of "Dottie Rambo: The Gifted Songwriter of the Twentieth Century" for this year. I will resume the Dottie Rambo posts in January 2012. The rest of this year I will be focusing on the season of Christmas. My Sunday posts will revolve around the theme of Jesus birth. I will also write another thought on scripture in relation to Jesus birth. I have some ideas but I'm not sure how exactly the title of it.
I will also be featuring YouTube clips of Christmas music as well. There are some other things I'll feature but I'm not sure what that will be yet. I may even feature a few repeats of some Christmas posts from the last two years. I haven't quite decided how I'm going to work that out yet. I will also be possibly writing a couple of posts continuing the theme of Christmas traditions, which I have done for the last two years. I hope everybody enjoys this Friday Christmas shopping. Let's not forget the reason why celebrate Christmas. We celebrate Christmas to remember Jesus being born into this world so that one day he would die on an old rugged cross for the sins of mankind that we might be set free from sin. I'm looking forward to this upcoming Christmas season. Christmas this year will fall on a Sunday. Have a wonderful day!

Dana Milbank from the Washington Post wrote an interesting post about former House Speaker and 2012 presidential candidate Newt Gingrich. In the post he stated that Newt Gingrich is entirely "too moderate" in the field of presidential candidates and doesn't do an adequate job of posing himself as the anti-Mitt Romney. Milbank gives examples of issues where he waffles on such as climate change when he made an appearance with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to warn of the dangers of global warning. Back this past May he said the budget plan that Republican Congressman Paul Ryan put forth amounts to "right-wing" social engineering. Newt Gingrich has also supported individual mandates that require Americans to purchase health insurance.
The problem with Newt Gingrich is he's too wishy-washy. You can't trust what he says. I find it very astounding that he's risen to the top of the polls regarding Republican candidates. Gingrich is no alternative to President Obama. If he wins the Republican nomination next year, I guarantee you Gingrich will lose handily to President Obama. Gingrich has way too much baggage he carries with him. Gingrich is a brilliant man and does a good service when it comes to dispensing his intellectual knowledge when writing books. However, he has no business in politics. He's spent 20 years in Congress. He's proven that he's no principle conservative. He's nothing but a tool of the globalists. Gingrich is not a counterweight to President Obama. If Gingrich wins the nomination, then I project a third-party candidate will run giving a voice to conservative values and that will split the conservative vote. However, regardless whether there's a third party candidate or not, Gingrich will not win the presidency. As much as I'm not favorable towards Mitt Romney, I would much rather vote for Romney than Gingrich. Gingrich has been in politics for a long time. Appreciating Our Spiritual Heritage
Baptist History - A Brief Survey Independent Fundamental Baptist Churches - What they are and What is their History
Just recently I had the privilege at church to hear a preacher preach a full week on the subject of Baptist history. It was very informative and we learned much information about our Baptist forefathers and the price they paid for our liberty today. They paved the way for us to enjoy the privilege we have to spread the gospel around the entire world. I'm aware in this generation many people possess the mindset that history is dry, dull, and boring. Some may think it's irrelevant. However, as George Santaya once stated, "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it." That's so very true in this generation we live in. We have a group of people who are content to be entertained by the means of televison and the internet. People today are more interested in watching American Idol and Desperate Housewives than they are in learning about our own nation's history. Our forefathers payed a great price for us to enjoy the blessings that we do. We are a very blessed people indeed.
Several months ago I started a series on the subject of "Appreciation". I've been writing about some of the different things we need to be thankful for. The list is numerous. We need to be thankful for the Lord Jesus who died on the cross of Calvary who saved us from sin. We need to be thankful for our salvation, our church, our pastor, the brethren, our families, our country, the material blessings that have been bestowed upon us. We could spend an entire day meditating upon the blessings of God and we couldn't begin to scratch the surface. God is so good. It's important for families to instill a sense of appreciation in their children by both word and deed.
When I heard the series of messages preached on Baptist history a few weeks ago, I decided that this would be an appropriate time just a few days before Thanksgiving to write about the subject on appreciating our spiritual heritage. When reading the New Testament beginning with the book of Acts, one knows that the Apostles faced persecution for their faith. They were beaten, thrown in jail, tarred and feathered for the God they stood for. Nero, one of the ruthless Roman emperors during early church history was known for the persecution of Christians. Nero was Roman emperor from 54 to 68 A.D. He tortured Christians. He tortured those who refused to recant and deny the Lord Jesus Christ. The early Christians refused to worship the Roman emperor and as a result they suffered mightily for their faith. Whenever you read the book of Revelation in chapters 2 and 3 you read about the letters to the seven churches in Asia Minor. One of the churches that we read about was the Church of Smyrna. Smyrna was a small church that was under persecution. However, those Christians stood true to their faith. They were faithful and they were the only church that didn't receive any type of rebuke from the Lord. They were on fire for God. However, they suffered persecution. In church history we read about the Bishop in Smyrna named Polycarp who was known as a martyr. He refused to deny the Lord Jesus Christ. He stood for the faith. As a result, he was martyred because he refused to deny the Lord. He was a great warrior for the faith.
I have an article linked up on this post about Baptist history and some of the major figures that played a role in shaping our world. They set this world on fire for the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who are saved and serving God in America today know nothing of the persecution that our forefathers faced. We have it made. We don't have to worry about having our heads chopped off with a guillotine because we stand for God. However, we've become very complacent in our walk for God. I believed Christians in America are representative of the church in Laodecia in Revelation 3. We have need of nothing. We are rich and increased with goods. We are spiritually weak and don't recognize that we're in bad shape. We've taken our ease in Zion. We need to once again to take a look into Baptist history and church history in general to read about the sacrifices our Baptist forefathers made for us in time past. Thank God for those who've contended and stood for the faith.

I find it amazing how former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has climbed to number 2 amongst the GOP within just a short period of time. I made the prediction this past summer that Newt's presidential bid wouldn't go anywhere, especially after some of his campaign staff resigned this past summer. I do recognize the puppetmasters control the presidential elections. The problem is we don't have any formidable candidates to choose from on the Republican side, and I believe that's been deliberately planned. I still am predicting Mitt Romney will become the 2012 Republican nominee next year, but anything's posible. If the puppetmasters or forces of Nimrod desire for Gingrich to be the 2012 nominee for president, then they'll manipulate the election to make it happen. If Gingrich is the Republican nominee for president next year, then President Barack Obama will be re-elected as president next year. Gingrich has too much moral and political baggage on him. Former Penn State Assistant Coach Jerry Sandusky
Ex Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky admitted Monday that he took showers and "horsed around" with young boys, but insisted he's no pedophile who criminally assaulted children, according to an interview he gave with NBC. Sandusky was charged November 5, 2011 with molesting eight boys over a span of 15 years, and two university officials were charged with failing to notify authorities after being told about a 2002 incident in which Sandusky allegedly sodomized a boy in the showers of the football building. He is free on $100,000 bail. The scandal led to the ouster of University President Graham Spanier and former head football coach Joe Paterno, who coached at Penn State over 40+ years. On Saturday, Penn State played their final home football game against Nebraska with Joe Paterno.
This scandal could affect Penn State in regards to it's athletic program and other areas of the university for years to come. If it does, so be it. This is a tragedy which needs to be dealt with. There are a number of things I don't know about this situation, but the truth needs to be brought forth. Those who are found guilty should be prosecuted. What all took place I don't know. I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation towards all those veterans that have served in our Armed forces throughout the history of the United States. Today is Veterans Day. I appreciate the sacrifices the veterans have made on behalf of the United States the last 200+ years. It's because of their sacrifices on the battlefield that we enjoy the freedoms we do as Americans. In this generation we live in many people think history is very boring and unimportant. Nevertheless, if there's ever a generation that needs to know history, it's this generation of young people today. We live in a very pampered society where many people have had things handed to them. Those type of people need to know their history. They need to know for no other reason than to realize that somebody paid a price for the things they enjoy today. If it wasn't for the diligence and dedication of our forefathers, we wouldn't have the privilege to enjoy what we possess today. Happy Veterans Day!

Today is Veterans Day. I appreciate the sacrifices the veterans have made on behalf of the United States the last 200+ years. It's because of their sacrifices on the battlefield that we enjoy the freedoms we do as Americans. In this generation we live in many people think history is very boring and unimportant.
