President Obama's Speech Concerning Osama bin Laden's Death
(USA Today May 3, 2011) President Obama hailed the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden as a moment of national pride Monday. Obama told a bipartisan gathering of lawmakers at the White House that the pride inspired by bin Laden's demise is "far deeper than party, far deeper than politics." He said he hopes to "harness some of that unity and some of that pride to confront the many challenges that we still face." Obama will go Thursday to Ground Zero in New York City.
On Sunday evening President Obama revealed in his address to the nation that an elite team of Navy SEALs took out Bin Laden. Fox News carried the story this past Sunday evening. The White House and Pentagon briefings gave details of of the 40-minute raid: Bin Laden was shot in the face. Four others were killed, including a woman at first thought to be his wife. As Pakistani military aircraft mobilized, a U.S. helicopter had to be destroyed before the SEALs made their getaway.
