Newt Gingrich Declares Candidacy for President

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich officially threw his hat into the ring last week declaring a bid for a White House run.  However, Gingrich has a lot of baggage from the time he served as former House Speaker from the years 1995-99.  Newt Gingrich was instrumental in spearheading the Republicans rise to power in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate in 1994 when the Republican Party won a majority in the House for the first time since 1954 and the U.S. Senate for the first time since 1986.  He's a very brilliant man.  He is an academic.  He taught history at college and is a historian.  He taught a history course in college while he served in the House.  However, when it comes to political power, he became part of the problem.  He wasn't very successful in derailing the Clinton agenda when Bill Clinton was president.  He was more concerned with political power than he was in trying to solve problems.  Newt also isn't consistent with his hard-core beliefs concerning conservatism.  In 2003, Gingrich supported the Medicare prescription drug program which was passed by a Republican Congress and signed by George W. Bush, a Republican president.  In 2008, he appeared in an ad with then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi upholding the theory that global warming does exist.  He also supported an absolute Obama-lite Republican in New York's 23rd Congressional District in a special election in 2009.  He supported Dede Scozzafava, who was chosen by the eleven Republican Party County Chairs.  Gingrich drew criticism from his conservative base as a result.

Also, Newt Gingrich is a flip-flopper as well.  He did that this past Sunday with his appearance on "Meet the Press" with David Gregory.   Gingrich was talking about both political parties and here's what he had to say: "I don't think right-wing social engineering is any more desirable than left-wing social engineering, he said when asked about Ryan's (Paul Ryan) plan to transition a 'premium support' model for Medicare.  'I don't think imposing change from the right or left or right is a very good way for a free society to operate."  (http://www.bookerrising.net/)  I would like to ask Newt what is it that he considers radical about Ryan's budget plan?  Our country is on the verge of bankruptcy.  There needs to be draconian cuts in the Congressional budget.  It needs to happen immediately.  If you look at Ryan's 10-year budget which is supposed to save us $6 trillion dollars, the cuts are very moderate compared to the fact we have a combined national debt over $14 trillion.  We need over $10 trillion cut from the budget today.  We can't wait ten years from now.

What does Gingrich mean when he uses the phrase "right-wing" social engineering?  What's right-wing about Paul Ryan's budget?  I don't believe the cuts in Ryan's proposal are drastic enough. Has there been calls to eliminate Washington's vast bureaucracy?   Are many bureaucrats on the verge of being axed from their jobs?  I haven't heard of it.  Are there any serious calls to eliminate any departments from the executive cabinet such as the Department of Education, Commerce, or Energy?  No I haven't.  Is Congess calling for major Congressional budget cuts?  Of course not.  I heard House Speaker John Boehner earlier this year call for a 5% cut in Congressional Budget's staff.  However, there hasn't been any serious, meaningful calls to eliminate waste.  The cuts are very modest to say the least.

Gingrich talks out of both sides of his mouth.  He's not trustworthy.  He doesn't have a chance to be elected president.  He's a RINO himself.  Why is he running?  There's money to be made running for president.  Follow the money trail.  By the time he finishes his presidential campaign, he'll be able to pocket a few million dollars for himself.  He's not a serious contender for president.  Gingrich can better serve his country by involving himself in the organization he started in 2007 called American Solutions for Winning the Future.  He can use his God-given ability to concoct solutions in dealing with the problems America faces.  He doesn't need to be back in politics anymore.  He's nothing but yesterday's throwback.  He's expensed his time as a politician.  He can devote his time to more worthy endeavors.
