The "Weeper of the House" Needs to Get a Grip
On Wednesday I was reading the Jim Sumpter newsletter that I receive on a daily basis from my email. He does a daily commentary called "My Take." On Jim Sumpter's newsletter the other day, he showed a YouTube clip of The View which features women personalities such as Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Barbara Walters, Sherri Shepherd, and Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Sumpter does a "My Take" commentary every day regarding the news. On Wednesday, Sumpter's "My Take" was "Get a Grip." He was mentioning about the View in which Barbara Walters was stating that she believes that Boehner has an emotional problem for crying so much. The ladies on the View were showing the clip where Lesley Stahl from CBS was interviewing future House Speaker John Boehner. Boehner starting getting emotional when he was mentioning about some of the schools in Ohio and he started crying when he said he wants children to have a chance at obtaining the American dream like he did. Walters went on to comment that if outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was crying like Boehner was, some would've said that she's a weak leader and can't handle the pressure.
I don't get very excited over a politician crying, I don't care what label or stripe they are. I especially don't when they display it front of the camera very often. Is Boehner's tears legitimate? I don't know. I can't judge a person's heart and make that call. However, I do believe that if the things that he claims touches his heart like he gives the appearance on television, he'll also be touched by those same things off camera. Regardless whether his crying is legitimate or not, there are some things that he will need to get a grip on when he becomes House Speaker. In this case, I'm not speaking of his emotions.
First of all, Boehner needs to get a grip on the fact that America is in flames and this isn't no time for business as usual in Washington. Americans overwhelmingly rejected the Democrats in the House due to the socialist agenda that Pelosi, Reid, and Obama were trying to push on America. Boehner claims he doesn't support earmarks. Will he enforce that when he becames the new speaker in January? Deficit reduction is one of the gravest issues that must see results in the next Congress. Is he willing to say no to spending bills that add to the deficit, even from Republican colleagues? Republicans are also part of the problem when it comes to the massive debt. Will Boehner place himself on the line even if it's unpopular and as a result he will be scathed by the media? Only time will answer that question.
Another point that Boehner must get a grip on is he musn't be the go-to guy to get bad deals done in Washington. This was a point that Sumpter made in his own newsletter. Boehner will have pressure to make deals that are bad for America. Boehner must be upright and honest and now allow himself to be a party to any legislation that hurts America? Boehner also must get a grip on the fact that Congress is to follow the U.S. Constitution. If Congress will abide by the U.S. Constitution, that will end a lot of foolishness when it comes to unconstitutional spending and unconstitutional ways government conducts business.
Boehner also needs to get a grip on the fact that the Republicans won't be able to repeal and replace the new healthcare law which was signed in March. However, since the spending bills originate in the House, the Republican majority can refuse to fund this new healthcare bill. That's what must take place. The Republicans don't have the votes to repeal this new healthcare bill, but they don't have to fund it. Will Boehner stand up and refuse to fund this new healthcare law or will he make some type of compromise to partially fund it? We'll wait and find out.
I'm going to close with another point that Sumpter made. Boehner must be overtly patriotic if he's going to be a successful Speaker of the House. Everything that Boehner does must be in the best interests of America. If any bill whittles away at America's sovereignty, he shouldn't support it. Will Boehner do all the things I just mentioned? I don't know. I recall when Boehner because House Majority Leader in February 2006 upon the resignation of former Majority Leader Tom DeLay for money laundering. Boehner didn't do anything to stop the Bush agenda which was leading America on the path of socialism when the Republicans held the majority in the House. We'll have to take a wait and see approach.
