Today is the day for all Americans to cast their ballots in this year's 2010 elections. This year's midterm elections feature 37 Senatorial races on the ballot. Two of the Senate races (Connecticut and West Virginia) are special races due to Joe Biden winning the vice presidency two years ago and Robert Byrd's death this past June. There are 37 gubernatorial races nationwide with Democrats currently holding 19 governorships while Republicans are currently holding 18 governorships. The Republicans are showing strong leads in 18 states with four more states leaning that direction. Democrats are running strong in two states with three more leaning their direction. According to Rasmussen Reports, no state with a Republican governor is likely to turn Democratic. There are nine states with Democratic governors which will most likely elect a Republican governor today.
In the race for the control of the U.S. Senate, there are 37 Senate races on the ballots. The Democrats are currently in charge of the Senate. In order for the Republicans to win control of the Senate, they need 10 seats. As it now stands according to Rasmussen, the Senate balance of power is 48 Democrats to 45 Republicans with seven Senate seats a tossup. There are seven seats that are solidly Democratic and seven seats that are solidly Republican. There are tight races in Nevada, Pennsylvania, Illinois, California, Colorado, West Virginia, and Washington. Rasmussen predicts the Republicans will make gains in the Senate but he expects Democrats to retain control of the balance of the power.
In the House of Representatives, all 435 seats are up for grabs. Republicans need to gain 39 seats to win control of the House. All the major polls are projecting the Republicans to win the House. Many pollsters project the Republicans could win as many as 55 seats. I wouldn't be surprised if they pick up more than that. The House race could be a slaughterhouse. I expect Republicans might fare better in the House than originally projected.
There are also several state and local elections as well in this year's midterm elections. In the state in which I live, there are local and state races such as commissioner races and races in the state Legislature in Frankfort. This is a very important election. It seems like the last few election cycles have been crucial. Voters need to show up at the polls and vote out these incumbent mobsters in Washington. If there's any chance that we as voters can halt President Obama's agenda in Washington, then we must vote out those members who are presently serving in Congress. Otherwise it will be smooth sailing for President Obama and the Democrat Congress.
One of the greatest privileges we have as Americans is the opportunity to cast our vote. The right to vote is a blood bought privilege. Throughout the 234 years of our nation's history, we've had American soldiers that gave their lives on the battlefields so we as Americans can have the privilege to vote. If changes are to be made, they must be first made at the ballot box. If we want the opportunity to change the direction our government is headed, we must be unified and vote out those that seek to destroy America as we know it. If we don't make major changes at the ballot box today, then our future as America will be forever changed. Please vote!
